Master Sergeant (MSG) Walter S. Sammis was inducted into the U.S. Army on 4 December 1942. During World War II (WWII), he served in the European Theater of Operation, and in occupied Germany. Sammis was discharged on 6 January 1946. On 4 November 1948, he reenlisted in the U.S. Army, and was assigned to Fort Dix, New Jersey.
